BROKEN HILL

From AUD $2,990.00
  • Duration: 9 Days (approx.)
  • Location: Broken Hill
Broken Hill ‘Beyond the Darling River on the edge of Sundown’ is a vibrant culturally rich, prosperous city in the heart of the inspirational outback. The amazing colours and magical light of this vast landscape have proved a mecca for artists and film makers alike. The dark red soils contrasting with clear blue skies during the day and sunsets when the wide horizon glows red and orange leave very few untouched. Today Broken Hill is still a working town, mining is still a major economic driver and in conjunction with agriculture, art and tourism the city is ‘buzzing’.

Our 3 days in the Hill will allow time to explore the city and its many attractions at a leisurely pace. The mining legacy is all around, as the site of the richest deposit of silver, lead and zinc the world has ever seen and we will learn about the industry through the eyes of locals. The city also boasts amazing galleries and museums as well as beautiful heritage buildings, all surrounded by stunning natural landscapes which combine to make a visit to Broken Hill a truly unforgettable experience.

Our journey out is broken by a 2 night stay at Dubbo, itself a major regional city with the highlight being our visit to the highly acclaimed Western Plains Zoo. Our guide will give us amazing insights into the behaviour of the animals on display and bring us up to date with the breeding programs of many of the endangered species.

After our stay in Broken Hill we head for Wentworth at the junction of the Darling and Murray Rivers. The Darling, having travelled through thousands of miles of limestone country, is milky grey compared to the rich brown of the Murray flowing across the red plains. Our journey east takes us through Mildura and the Sunraysia, the Riverina and on to Wagga Wagga for our final nights. We return to Sydney through Gundagai and Yass.
