ORANGE & DUBBO ZOOFARI

The feature of this tour will be our one night’s accommodation in the grounds of the outstanding Western Plains Zoo   (Ph: 6881 1488).   It includes an afternoon guide, a fabulous dinner, an early morning safari and African inspired ‘breakfast’ – a wonderful opportunity for a behind the scenes experience at this extraordinary facility.

Through research, action and advocacy, Taronga is leading vital work that supports wildlife habitats and communities around the globe. The zoo opened in 1977 and has expanded to over 300 hectares and has had great success with its breeding programs.   Our overnight accommodation in the lodges will give us much more time to appreciate this amazing collection of animals.  

Our first night is at the Dubbo RSL Motel (Ph: 6884 9099) which has developed a great reputation for its outstanding hospitality. Dubbo is an expanding and thriving regional city and apart from our extended time at the zoo, we will take in many of its excellent attractions.

Our final 2 nights are at the 4 star Mercure Orange (Ph: 6362 5611). Orange is Australia’s colour city, four very different seasons ensure our visit will be a little different, with each season having its own special charm.   Canobolas, an extinct volcano, towers over Orange and the Cabonne country, surveying its legacy of fertility.   

The area has a fine reputation as a food bowl with grain fed beef, fat lambs, grapes, apples, cherries, stone fruit, berries, nuts and vegetables all produced in abundance.  Orange today is a sophisticated and prosperous city with a history dating back to the very first gold rush and many fine heritage buildings.  

Our journey west takes us over the Bells Line of Road through Kurrajong, Bilpin, Mt Tomah and Lithgow to Mudgee and we will return over the Blue Mountains through Katoomba and Leura.
