Adelaide, Australia’s first planned city is truly a delight. Colonel William Light has left a wonderful legacy, the city layout, surrounded by 900 hectares of wonderful parklands, is an urban masterpiece and has been included on the National Heritage List. Apart from its natural beauty Adelaide is a vibrant city that has developed a reputation as an arts centre as well as a gateway to some of the best wine regions in the world. Located on the coastline of Gulf St Vincent, Adelaide’s beaches stretch for 30 kilometres.  We will explore Glenelg and Port Adelaide as well as the rich European heritage so evident in the Hills villages such as Hahndorf.

The larger Eyre Peninsula’s Eastern side has calm beaches and the warm waters of the Spencer Gulf. The West Coast has spectacular cliffs, long white sandy beaches and brilliant blue water. Its 2,000 kilometres of pristine coastline is home to an amazing array of sea life with Southern Right whales being a common sight frolicking in the shadows of the limestone cliffs.

Bottlenose dolphins and sea lions are also plentiful, attracted by an abundance of fish and the area has built an excellent reputation for the quality and variety of its seafood.  We will have the opportunity to sample Coffin Bay Oysters along with scallops, King George Whiting, flathead and Blue Fin tuna.  The National Parks of the peninsula are home to over 150 species of birds, their beauty and isolation a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

The Yorke Peninsula has 200 kilometres of beautiful coastline surrounded by Gulf St Vincent to the east and Spencer Gulf to the west. Offering more stunning beaches and excellent seafood, the Yorke Peninsula also has an interesting history. In the 19th Century the region saw a copper mining boom and also a rapid expansion in agriculture, with barley still being a major crop. Apart from fabulous surf beaches the Yorke coastline is strewn with shipwrecks making it an excellent dive location, and its friendly towns and villages provide a warm welcome.
